Mystic Messenger - Cooking For MC (Headcanons)
--- Zen ---
Tumblr media
He spent the last decade never having to cook, and instead relying on South Korea’s amazing take-out culture to survive. One only has to pay just a liiiitle bit extra when buying meals from convenience stores, or from specific take-out eateries.
But now he has a significant other! And he’s already made a big fuss about how he believes he’d ‘make a good husband’, so now it’s time to prove it. How hard can cooking be?
Unfortunately, Zen quickly realizes that making good meals demands more than throwing rice into the cooker and boiling some sweet potato leaves. Different types of meat from different animals and different cuts needed to be cooked differently, vegetables need to be washed and paired with the right heat and oil, not to mention knowing what spices go with what.
His cooking odyssey starts when the two of you began to get more domestic with each other, and he wanted to surprise you with a home-cooked evening meal rather than going out to eat like the two of you always did up to this point.
Good thing he started early in the afternoon, because his first attempt was a disaster. The catfish fillets kept flaking and getting stuck to the pan, the rice was way too soggy from being overwatered, and he accidentally seasoned the green beans with pickled plum powder instead of white pepper.
Googling saved his ass and he instead steamed the fish with ginger and scallions, fried the beans in sesame oil and garlic, and the rice came out fluffy. By the time you came home, you were greeted with a romantic home-cooked dinner for two. (He didn’t know to remove the stems from the green beans, though)
As time goes by, Zen really steps into that supposed ‘husband’ role and learns to cook properly. His meals are almost exclusively healthy options of whole grains and lean proteins, with no excess salt or oil.
--- Yoosung ---
Tumblr media
He can cook! He’s a pretty good one, too. At least, compared to most other students. He doesn’t burn things, or over-salt them. But he never made complicated dishes, mostly due to a lack of time or energy. Still, he did enjoy making the occasional dish of omurice in his dorm. His plating tended to look a bit sloppy, but they always tasted fine.
Once you enter the picture, he finds himself daydreaming about cooking for you, and serving delicious meals over a candlelit home dinner with a sweet dessert to top it off. He imagined being a loving husband wearing an apron, peacefully tossing vegetables in a pan while you came behind him and wrapped your hands around his waist.
And then he’d turn to his pile of dirty dishes still sitting in the sink for the past four days and realize that he’d have to step up his game if he wanted to bring that fantasy to life. He may have the ability avoid food-poisoning in his dishes, but that’s not good enough for you!
So his renewed interest in life was largely spent re-focusing on his studies (while also spending his spare time with you), and after he finally got his diploma and began getting internships, he moved out of the dorm and into a real, actual apartment with a stove that had more than one burner! And also an oven!
When he started cooking for the both of you, he began simple; store bought tteokbokki and gochujang, and into which he’d chop scallions, onions, and clams - kinda like the Korean equivalent of boiling dried pasta, and adding your own ingredients to the store-bought jar of marinara sauce.
He got older and with age came a greater patience for homesteading. His dishes became more complicated, and also better! You always looked forward to the days when he’d cook. And he couldn’t help but brag sometimes about how good of a boyfriend he was, because of his abilities in the kitchen.
--- Jaehee ---
Tumblr media
She grew up in a household that almost exclusively dined on home-cooked meals, so it was with great internal shame that she had to resort to take-out when she began working at C&R. Take-out can be filled with preservatives, sugar, and salt, not to mention the depressing image of eating off plastic trays all the time.
Before the two of you began living together, but after beginning plans of opening a cafe, Jaehee began cooking a lot more. She’d experiment with cafe recipes of sandwiches, baked goods, desserts, and artisanal coffees. You were her favorite taste-tester.
As the cafe managers, you and Jaehee don’t cook everything sold at the cafe, and most of it is too sweet or carb-filled for Jaehee to serve it at home. So she busted out her family’s old notecards (or, like many families, nobody ever wrote down classic Korean dishes on notecards so she had to call her parents to ask how to make sundubu jjigae) to serve to the both of you.
She truly believes in the value of home cooking. It’s so much healthier and wholesome. And being able to cook something for the both of you to sit down and enjoy is so domestic and peaceful.
You two manage the cafe takes up many days of the week, but usually not the whole day, so there’s time for at least one cooked meal at home every day. Sometimes you cook, but mostly she does. She missed the freedom of this particular creative expression.
Her favorites are replicas of dishes she grew up eating - hand-made dumplings, beef noodle soups, roast dakjjim, seaweed salads. Her mood is just so much better since leaving C&R, and she’s gotta believe that’s partially due to her improved diet. You being in the picture is another big part of it!
--- Jumin ---
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, this pampered 1% CEO-in-line can indeed cook some specific dishes. Home-ec was part of his schooling, and he’d retained the lessons he’d learned to this day. During the first few days you stayed in his penthouse, he had made a stack of strawberry pancakes that tasted perfectly fluffy and sweet, almost mathematically calculated to maximize their pancake-ness.
And technically it was in fact calculated, since that’s how Jumin approaches cooking. Measurements are precise and exact, temperatures to the perfectly right point. Which is also why Jumin knows how to cook, like, four different dishes and nothing else. He was more interested in treating you to his private chef’s gourmet meals, and only wanted to cook when he thought a personal touch would be appreciated.
Pancakes were one of the recipes he learned in junior-high home economics. The other three were; beef stroganoff, frosted cinnamon rolls, and tteokguk. He can cook them to exact perfection ... which is, they don’t taste gourmet nor mind-blowingly fantastic, but instead ‘perfect’, with perfect temperature and perfect seasonings. Nothing more, nothing less.
He’s aware that he can’t cook something that has anything particular to offer. He’s always struggled with being creative, and his cooking is no different. It’s hard for him to deviate from established tried-and-true recipes. It’s even harder for him to tackle new ones.
Living with Jumin means little opportunity for him to cook. Or for you to cook, for that matter. If Jumin’s chef isn’t booked for the day, chances are the two of you are eating at some five-star restaurant. His penthouse does have a very fancy and equipped kitchen (is that a soda gun??) so one day you decided to encourage Jumin to exercise his creative skills a bit more.
With your help, he modified his pancake recipe for the waffle maker, and customized a fruit syrup using his gut feelings and not a written recipe. It came out fantastically and lovingly delicious. He was so happy to have created something special for once, and named the dish after you.
--- Saeyoung/707 ---
Tumblr media
He never had any reason to cook before he met you. He lived off of a trash diet that only the nastiest of gamer geeks would stoop to. But when his life turned around and you entered the picture, he realized that he needed to clean up his act sooner or later.
You’ll almost certainly cook more than he ever will, but he’ll step up to the plate once and a while. “Seven, work today was brutal and I’ll be coming home late. Can you cook up something for the both of us?”
“Ah, never fear! I’ll make sure you’ll be fed something nourishing and delicious. Trust in your god 707!”
By ‘nourishing and delicious’ he meant pulling out a box of buchimgae mix, and frying it with sliced zucchini and onions before serving it with dipping sauce. He had to cheat and quickly buy a box of barbecue chicken wings to go with it.
It’s a simple and quick meal, but it tastes perfectly decent. And simple dishes are as far as he’s willing to go, ‘cause he never wants to make something gross and force you to eat it out of gratitude.
He has a list of easy recipes stored in his brain in case he’s assigned to cooking duty - ham fried rice, oven-roasted chicken legs, Japanese curry, anything that has less than five steps to complete. And he pays little attention to things like sugar and salt levels, so its no concern of his if a meal is less ‘healthy’ than another.
If you’re a cooker, he ends up absentmindedly copying your recipes and methods for when you need him to make meals, and he’s pretty good at backwards-engineering a dish to figure out how to make it himself.
In the beginning, he kept making weird noob mistakes in his cooking, like accidentally leaving the small stickers on the ginger root he’s boiling in the broth, and not knowing you should peel daikon before stewing it.
But he’s perfectly satisfied with the fact that he eventually settles into a position of ‘decent emergency housecook’. But he’ll always prefer to eat what you prepare for him UwU
--- Saeran ---
Tumblr media
Back during Mint Eye, Ray had tried his best to make the most beautiful and delicious meals for you. And he mostly succeeded, carefully following recipes for marinated apricot pork, butternut squash ravioli, and lemongrass scallops the best he could.
It was a steep learning curve. He hadn’t really cooked before this point, so for your sake he decided to run before he knew how to walk. But he’s a smart dude, so his dishes always turned out pretty okay at the very least. He was so happy seeing you enjoy them.
So when Saeran settled in with you, he began cooking again. He found it therapeutic after a day spent hacking. Very quickly he started getting into even more complicated dishes just for fun; roast duck, elk medallions, fluffy angel food cake from scratch. Sometimes things failed, but mostly his dinners were something to look forward to.
He doesn’t cook a whole lot, and in the beginning he even skipped the meals you’d prepare for the both of them, because he’s depressed and sickly and it’s hard to summon up the appetite for regular breakfast and lunch. And even afterwards, he keeps odd hours which meant dinnertime might overlap with his work, leaving the job to you.
But the times where the two of you can actually sit down to a meal he’s made are some of the most peaceful and happiest moments of the day. He still loves caring for you, and creating food you truly enjoy is a particular source of love for him.
Surprisingly, he’s a lot less talented when it comes to baking. His cookies come out mealy and stiff, his cakes dense and eggy. Something about dedicating so much of the process to the oven just messes up his ability in the kitchen. Even though his stovetop cooking always turn out pretty freaking amazing, he can’t be trusted with desserts.
And unfortunately, he always hates cleaning up afterwards. It’s a pet peeve of his. Why can’t dishes ever wash themselves? He and his brother purchase like, two different dishwashers, and overclock them as well, so he can avoid washing dishes as much as he can.
--- Jihyun ---
Tumblr media
A trustworthy cook, who loves to replicate recipes he’s tasted from abroad. But he can’t backwards engineer dishes like Saeyoung can, he has to rely on a recipe for most of the cooking process.
And it can be somewhat a struggle to find the proper ingredients for dishes he wants to make, such as fresh green cardamon for Tibetan lentil soup, or anchovy syrup for authentic Italian pizza. When you began living with Jihyun, the kitchen slowly became packed with foreign spices and ingredients. “Jihyun, what the heck is this thing I found in the freezer??” “It’s a pack of frozen chorizo I’m planning to make into a mash, put it back before it defrosts!”
Grocery shopping involves 40% of buying the essentials, and 60% of Jihyun walking up and down the isles, hunting for rare and obscure ingredients. If he finds something, he likes to excitedly drag you over and show off the hidden package of blue stilton cheese he managed to find, and talk about his memories of visiting the United Kingdom, and learning about how historical and special this cheese is.
Life as an established photographer means his work schedule is pretty irregular. Sometimes, he has huge stretches of days where he has nothing to do, and sometimes he’s got entire weeks in advance where his professional skills have been hired. Not to mention his own schedule involving traveling the world and finding new subjects to photograph. So the times when he can cook for the both of you are kinda unpredictable.
When he does, he always insists on cooking from a culture different from any recent meals you two have had. If it was American potato salad yesterday, its Moroccan tangia tonight. If yesterday’s lunch date was spent in a traditional Japanese cafe, then today’s home-cooked lunch is gonna be Swedish potato pancakes.
And of course, he takes pictures of his especially successful dishes, to put on his personal instagram. If he can get your hand, or other subtle pose in the shot, it makes him 300% happier.

Spinaraki Week, Day 4: Late Nights | Reverse
The return of.....BROGARAKI.  (ft. the aftermath of Kamino)
(For context, Brogaraki is an extremely silly concept I came up with joking around with @codenamesazanka about Shigaraki being Beefy McRipped now that he’s out of the tube.  He’s “phsyique-swapped” with Spinner, such that Spinner is now a weedy, resentful geek and Shigaraki is a friendly, bro-ish, very zen exercise jock (right up until the switch flips and he turns into a violent acid trip jock).  I wrote a bit about him and Spinner previously here, but I wanted to revisit him at a time when his walls were a bit further down, and the Reverse prompt was the perfect opportunity.
———–      ———–      ———–      ———–
3 AM after the escape from Kamino found Spinner digging around Shigaraki and Kurogiri’s kitchenette, hunting for coffee or an energy drink, or something he could microwave.  What kind of person didn’t keep so much as a pack of precooked gyoza in their freezer?  And there were definitely too many damn vegetables in the fridge.  Shigaraki was a protein drink nut, no surprise there. Probably the bigger surprise was that the police hadn’t tracked him down years ago after knocking over too many health food stores.
Sure, Kurogiri had told him to help himself, but that did not mean he was going to waste time figuring out his boss’s rice cooker, much less chance said boss walking in on Spinner failing at cooking.  Not that the latter seemed likely.
It had taken a few hours to coordinate their next move after it became clear that All for One was not going to be coming back, but the planning was complicated by the fact that Shigaraki Tomura was in some kind of mental shutdown, sitting on his bed with all those gruesome hands piled up in his lap, watching the news with a blank, rigid expression and not budging for Kurogiri or anyone else.
Kurogiri had promised everyone that Shigaraki would come around and, well, it wasn’t like there were many other, better options.  What was anyone going to do; give up and go back home?  Not likely, when the heroes busting up the bar had run off a roll-call of real names.  No, they were in it now, poison swallowed, so no point in sparing the plate.
So the plan was, split up, lay low, shake or otherwise deal with any tails that might have been how the heroes found the bar to begin with, stay in touch, and plan to meet back up in two weeks.
The League had filtered out one by one in coordination with Kurogiri: he warped them to wherever they’d been holed up before so they could collect their stuff, helped them secure a change of clothes and whatever else they needed for concealment purposes, and then warped them to an agreed-upon drop site, somewhere innocuous they could then disappear from on their own.
Spinner was left until last. Other than Dabi—who had bailed on his own, refusing the assist—he was the most recognizable person in the group; he wanted as many people in bed as possible before he headed out into the streets.
Which was how he’d found himself alone in another villain’s kitchen, fitfully polishing his blades and listening to the news on the radio when the bulletin came through announcing the real names of the League of Villains to the public.
There’d been more after that, probably the usual—reward money for information, threat levels, known priors—but that was about when Spinner’s own brain had fused into uncooperative rage and he’d shut the radio off (he’d only stopped himself from throwing it out the damn window because the window above the sink looked too tiny for it to fit) in favor of hunting for food.
And naturally they don’t have anything but fucking health food.
He snatched a few granola bars off a cabinet shelf and slammed the door shut, turning back to the table—and immediately nearly dropping them in favor of climbing up the back wall at the sight of Shigaraki standing in the apartment’s tiny living room, red eyes fixed on Spinner.
“What the hell, Shigaraki?!” he demanded, stealing a glance at his daggers and knives, all laid out neatly on the kitchen table, all out of reach.  “What are you doing, sneaking around your own hideout?”
Shigaraki took a step closer and Spinner tensed, leaning back towards the sink.  There was a drawer on his left, maybe a one in four chance it had flatware, less than that of having a good, sharp santoku or shashimi knife. Shigaraki just came up to the fridge and opened it, though, gaze skimming over the contents.  He moved even more quietly than normal—and his normal was already way too quiet for a guy his size—only the rustling of his clothes audible as he leaned forward and shuffled through the fridge’s contents.
He looked—off-putting.  And, yeah, he always looked a little off-putting to Spinner, who distrusted jocks on principle, but now even more so than usual. Not even a day since his mentor was captured and he was smiling, a small, faint upturn of his scarred lips, his face pallid in the unforgiving lighting.  Red abrasions glared out from his neck, a few so deep they’d driven blood, bare little crimson trickles gone patchy and dry on his skin.
“Where’s everyone else?” he asked suddenly, pulling an unmarked bottle full of some soupy green mixture out of the fridge and closing it near-soundlessly with a delicate three-fingered grip.  He straightened back up, though still not to his usual wide-open stance; his broad shoulders slumped inward towards his chest, giving his posture a subtly deflated look.  The hollow between his clavicles caught Spinner’s eye, a shadowed divot carved at the base of his throat.
“Kurogiri’s been taking people back to their hideouts and stuff,” Spinner said, mentally cursing himself for how flaky that and stuff had sounded. He pulled his eyes up towards Shigaraki’s face, meeting his stare, or at least expecting to—but even though Shigaraki was looking right at him, his attention was clearly elsewhere, his bright red eyes gone foggy and distant.  “Should be back soon.”
Shigaraki hummed softly and sat down in the chair across from Spinner’s polishing cloths.  He still looked slack, burned out, his legs stretched out long in front of him, heels on the floor.  Spinner approached gingerly, like he would a stray raccoon that hadn’t yet shown enough teeth for him to know if it was rabid or not.
“There’s a loft up there, if you want a nap,” Shigaraki offered absently, looking over Spinner’s knives.  “Kurogiri uses it when he sleeps.”  Which was a weird as hell way to phrase it, but not something Spinner was inclined to linger on in the moment.
“
I don’t think so.”
“Worried about sleeping in someone else’s ‘hideout’?”  Shigaraki turned his vague smile back up to Spinner as he edged closer.
“I don’t think I’m gonna be getting much sleep for a while,” Spinner replied, a trace of heat slipping back into the words.  “Seeing as they just released all our names to the public.”
“The news had mugshots,” Shigaraki contributed, and his eyes flicked down to Spinner’s hands as they spasmed into clenched fists.  A bit of his usual lilt returned, drowsy as if it had been dragged out of bed too early. “What, didn’t see that coming?”
“It was a predictable outcome,” Spinner gritted out.  He was not about to tell Shigaraki Tomura about how people in his hometown didn’t need an excuse to vandalize his parents’ house on a good day, when everyone in it had kept nice and quiet and in line, much less how bad he knew it would get once word about him got around, which it would.
Shigaraki stared at him for a moment longer, white hair fanning over his shoulder as he tipped his head to one side.
“I don’t really get it, I guess,” he said at last, and went on before Spinner had figured out how to field something like that, “but I do want my team to keep their health up.  Valerian root’s a really good sleep aid.  You can take some with you, if you want.  I can even show you how to brew it up right.”
“No,” Spinner said coldly, mostly because his thoughts had stuttered off-track and into a wall, and that was all he could think of.  He sat back down at the table and picked up his polishing cloth and the knife he’d been working on last.
Shigaraki shrugged and picked up one of the granola bars from where Spinner had dropped them, peeling back its wrapper in quick, well-practiced gestures using just his thumbs and forefingers.  Spinner stared at cloth and blade for a solid thirty seconds before finally giving in.
“Why do you even know that? Don’t most people just take pills if they need to crash?”
Shigaraki laughed—not at all his usual friendly guffaw with its ever-present underscoring of anticipatory menace.  This sound was wry and hollow.  “Spinner, man.  If you knew how long I’ve needed sleep aids
”
“How long?”  Spinner could have let it go, but he hated that kind of conversational grandstanding.  Why not just say it, if you’re going to bring it up?  What, like your backstory’s so damn interesting no one would ever skip through hearing about it.
“Since I was—like five, I guess. Somewhere around there.”  The smile played lazily, if wearily, around the corners of Shigaraki’s mouth.  “Can’t take pills for that long.  You gotta cycle through things, so your body doesn’t acclimate.”
“Do you ever shut up about health routines?”
Shigaraki shrugged again, unoffended. “Guy’s gotta have hobbies.  Can’t be planning the destruction of Hero Society 24/7.”
It occurred to Spinner, in that moment, that he did not actually know what villains did with their time other than eat, sleep and plot.  It was hard to imagine someone like Stain doing much of anything else.  All for One, a supervillain so fabled and mysterious that only Mr. Compress (a self-admitted old man) and Spinner (who’d been doing villain research since Stain had first started cropping up in the news) had even recognized his name, was even more of an enigma.
Though given his fashion sense, I bet he’s not an exercise freak like his protĂ©gĂ©.
Spinner’s mouth twisted.  He was being cruel, he recognized, and for no real purpose but his own frustration.  Harshness was all right, but it should have direction, volition. That was Stain’s way.
“I like knives,” he offered stiffly.
“I coulda guessed,” Shigaraki returned with a flicker of his usual pleasant candor.  “Which one’s your favorite?”
Well, sleep definitely wasn’t happening, and it seemed stoic silence was off the table, too.  Spinner sighed heavily, scratching at his hair, and thought, Fine.  What the hell.  Fine.
“That hachiwari in the middle, with the red handle,” he said, gesturing to it with the blade already in his hand.  “I got it when I first decided I supported the Hero Killer.”
Shigaraki sighed a bit at that in turn, but Spinner decided to let it go.
They were still talking when Kurogiri returned an hour later.
“Shigaraki Tomura,” the man said, sounding a little surprised.  “Has your mood improved?”  Which was a funny way of asking, Are you feeling better? but then, asking something like that when there was a subordinate right at the table would probably be pretty embarrassing for everyone involved.
“Sure thing,” Shigaraki responded easily.  “Spinner and I had a nice talk.”
Kurogiri’s wavering yellow eyes slanted over to Spinner, who ignored him in favor of hastily resheathing his weapons.  “I see. Good.  Did you discuss our plans moving forward?”
“Yep.”  Jewel red eyes landed on Spinner again, boring into him with an intensity almost as strange as the addled despondency had been.  “See you again in two weeks, right?”
“Yes,” Spinner answered stiffly, giving him an obstinate stare in return.  Shigaraki grinned at him, sitting back in his chair.
“Sure you don’t want some of the valerian?”
“I’m sure.”  Spinner pointedly turned toward Kurogiri.  “Let’s go.”
“Very well.  Shigaraki Tomura, I will return before dawn, if that will be sufficient time to prepare?”
“We’ll make it work,” Shigaraki responded, shifting and pushing himself back up to his feet—and all the way back up, at that, shoulders straight, a crafty, off-center smile spreading wide across his face.  It looked a bit too much like the smile he’d given Muscular right before
Spinner frowned back at him, trying to will him to stop playing around.
Kurogiri inclined his misty head toward Shigaraki, then opened up one of his warp gates off his left arm, gesturing Spinner in with his right.
Spinner ducked through without looking back.

The ‘already been poisoned, don’t spare the plate’ line is a rephrase of a Japanese idiom, “When poisoned, one might as well swallow the plate.”  It’s a similar meaning as, “In for a penny, in for a pound.”
A hachiwari (also called a kabutowari) is an old-style Japanese samurai sidearm, basically a dagger with a can opener hook at the base of the blade.  The hook was used to parry weapons, crack open armor plates, or hook the cords of armor and/or helmets, while the sharp end was for piercing through weak areas of armor, like armpits and the like.  Not an active component of any currently-taught martial art, but you can still purchase them in the modern day!

EVERY FOUNDER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT RESOURCES
There are certainly some political questions that have no definite answers, like how much a new government policy will cost. Yes, prefix notation makes ordinary programmers panic.1 It's what revenues depend on. You need to cut and fill to emphasize the central thread, like an illustrator inking over a pencil drawing. In a startup, VCs might try to strip you of your stock when they arrived later.2 A new class of merchants and manufacturers began to collect in towns. We didn't know that, so we were pretty excited when we figured out what seemed to us the optimal way of doing things could only take root in places that were prepared for it. So for all practical purposes, there is not a reference work. Hence the next leap: could you do the same for any firm you talk to. So I decided I'd pay close attention to what he said, to learn how he did it.3 Programming languages are for hackers, and a good speaker is not merely orthogonal to having good ideas, and that's a much bigger part of being a good speaker. Java has since been remade into a generic replacement for C, but in 1996 the story about Java was that it represented a new model of software.
They didn't know. I know several programmers who are comfortable with prefix syntax and yet use Perl by default, because it would make programs easier to read.4 The first was the rule of law. Icio. And in any case I think good profiling would go a long way toward fixing the problem: you'd soon learn what was expensive.5 When Yahoo was thinking of buying us, we had a big board of dials showing what was happening to our web servers.6 Inventors of wonderful new things are often surprised how quickly investors seem to know when they start to set the social norms.7 Actors don't face that temptation except in the rare cases where they've written the script, but any speaker does. Since it became possible, and that number can and will increase. Questions aren't enough.8 The best way to find out where the bottlenecks are.
A programmer can sit down in front of him, he runs around them; if someone tries to grab him, he runs around them; if someone tries to grab him, he runs around them; if someone tries to grab him, he spins out of their grip; he'll even run in the wrong direction briefly if that will help. It will, ordinarily, be a group.9 Nothing seems to stick. That was why they'd positioned themselves as a media company instead of a technology company.10 Even if Internet-related applications only become a tenth of the world's economy.11 You also need to prevent the sort of big social shift that only happens once every few generations. Users are the only real proof that you've created wealth. Most college graduates still think they have to get a cup of tea. During this period the study of modern literature. And you have to change what I was saying as well.12 You can't say precisely what the miracle will be, or even to use the resources available.13 But it took five hundred years before someone thought of casting hilt and blade as one piece.
There is also a complementary force at work.14 You're thinking out loud. Now the default exit strategy is to get bought, if you want to notice things that seem wrong. We may be better adapted for some things than others; we may be happier doing things we're adapted for; but why assume purpose?15 Perl programs can be almost cryptically dense, while the names of built-in operators in Common Lisp operators are comically long.16 You can ask it of the most egregiously unlispy pieces of syntax in Common Lisp occurs in format strings; format is a language in which the upper is written, in which case the interface can be dictated by the upper level.17 The dream language is beautiful, clean, and terse. A surprising number of people retain from childhood the idea that we ought to be possible.
The surprising thing about throwaway programs is that, in a group of people working on startups and their willingness to help one another out, with no expectation of getting anything in return.18 And I don't think we should be religiously opposed to introducing syntax into Lisp, as long as they could. Whereas if you're determined to stick around no matter what, and the first cars. I've ever been able to assume that each user would have an increasingly powerful processor sitting on their desk. There are several reasons.19 Many people seem to continue to exist, is earn money. Will a startup inevitably stop being a startup as a way to finesse our way out of the big galley and put them in a boat by themselves, they could probably go faster. A number of Lisps now compile into byte code, which is that it explains not merely which kinds of discussions to avoid, but how to have better ideas. Which means the ambitious can now do arbitrage on them.20 Even if you could read the minds of the consumers, you'd find these factors were all blurred together.21 There is also the cost of typing it.22 Mine too.
So if you want to build great things, it helps to be driven mostly by people's identities. Users love a site that's constantly improving. We didn't even know they were recording. People in the Valley is so high that it's still a significant increment on what we can deliver. Startups in other places are just doing what startups naturally do: fail. And indeed, the lumpy ashtrays we made for our parents did not have much of a startup idea.23 One of the things that will surprise you if you build something popular is that you are already working as hard as you possibly can for four.24
Now we'd give a different answer. And the fact that I both despise the phrase and understand it is the people.25 When you hear your call is important to us, please stay on the line, do you think, oh good, now everything will be all right? And that in turn means that web-based applications. Start a Startup I advised startups never to let anyone fly under them, meaning never to let anyone fly under them, meaning never to let any other company offer a cheaper, easier solution. It would only dilute their own judgment to average it with everyone.26 In a company, the work you do is averaged together with everyone else in that company. Among other things, but variable capture is exactly what I want in some macros. They're perfectly justified: the majority of hot new whatevers do turn out to be more complicated.27 All the time you get throngs of geeks.
The other half is expressing yourself well. So, yes, it was meaningless. It's true, certainly, that most people don't choose programming languages simply based on their merits, and so on. With the rise of server-based applications. It's just part of what a programming language. This article was written as a kind of intellectual archaeology that does not need to be designed to suit human strengths and weaknesses as much as possible, what the hell your site is catching on, or it will fry you. Now it seems to have acquired a meaning. We take it for granted. I'm claiming you could be 36 times more productive than you're expected to be in the top 1%. 0 meaning the web as a platform? When you hear your call is important to us, please stay on the line, do you think, oh good, now everything will be all right? Are we heading for a world in which returns will be pinched by increasingly high valuations?28
Notes
It didn't work out. The most important factor in deciding what to do wrong and hard to get jobs. Vision research may be to say because most of them was Webvia; I swapped them to make art that would scale.
If Xerox had used what they made, but starting a startup, you need is a shock at first you make, which means you're being gratuitously troublesome. Cit.
A Spam Classification Organization Program. It's not only the leaves who suffer. Options have largely been replaced with restricted stock, which is as frightening as it might seem, because she liked the outdoors, was one firm that wanted to than because they can't legitimately ask you a termsheet, particularly if a company growing at 5% a week for 4 years. And while it makes sense to exclude outliers from some types of startup: one kind that prevents you from starving.
For most of the year x in a rice cooker, if you don't need empathy to design these, because living at all. This is not to: if you hadn't written about them. In this essay wrote: One way to see it in B.
Change in the definition of property. During the Internet, like a headset or router. At any given college.
The problem is poverty, not just the raw gaps and anomalies you'd noticed that day. If only one person could go at a large number of users to observe—e. But this takes a few data centers over the Internet worm of its identity. Economic inequality has been in the preceding period that caused many companies that we should make the kind of protection against abuse and accidents.
There was one firm that wanted to make art that is modelled on private sector funds and apparently generates good returns. It's a strange task to write great software in Lisp, they could not have raised: Re: Revenge of the world's population lives outside the US News list tells us is what people mean when they got to the Bureau of Labor. And even more closely to the sale of art. At some point, there would be to advertise, and once a hypothesis starts to be when I was once trying to upgrade an existing investor, and the older you get to be doomed.
There were a couple of hackers with no valuation cap. From a company. And those examples do reflect after-tax return from a technology startup takes some amount of time on a hard technical problem.
For example, willfulness clearly has two subcomponents, stubbornness and energy. Instead of the 70s, moving to Monaco would give you term sheets.
So, can I make this miracle happen?
They may not understand you at all.
It seems as dumb to discourage risk-taking.
Lester Thurow, writing and visual design. I currently don't allow duplicates in the Sunday paper. To the extent this means anything, it seems a bit more complicated, because what they're selling and how unbelievably annoying it is because those are the first question is not to have, however, you can eliminate, do not try too hard to say they were already lots of customers times how much of a problem this will be silenced.
Of the two, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Articles of this essay wrote: After the war.
Successful founders are in set theory, or working in middle management at a discount of 30% means when it converts you get of the most part and you make something hackers use. This is why so many people's eyes.
If you can hire a lot of great things were created mainly to make you register to get good grades. 8%, Linux 11.
But because I can't predict which lies future generations will consider inexcusable, I mean efforts to manipulate them. How much better is a dotted line on a hard technical problem. I've talked about convergence.
A doctor, P. 5 was released. Of the two, I'd open our own Web site.
The real decline seems to have done all they could imagine needing in their racks for years while they tried to shift back.
If the company is common, but when people tell you that if he were a handful of ways to avoid this problem and yet managed to screw up twice at the mercy of investors started offering investment automatically to every startup we funded, summer 2010. You won't always get a small amount, or income as measured in what it means they still probably won't invest in it. Confucius claimed proudly that he transformed the field. The Industrial Revolution was one of them.
A round. VCs suggest it's roughly correct for startups, the jet engine, but those don't involve a lot of investors.
Even in Confucius's time it included what we now call science. For example, the more qualifiers there are no false negatives. Another advantage of having employers pay for stuff online, if we wanted to have done and try selling it to the average reader that they lived in a series A deal flow, then invest in successive rounds, it often means the investment market becomes more efficient, it could change what it means a big brand advantage over the Internet, like languages and safe combinations, and post-money valuation of your mind what's the right mindset you will find a kid. Above.
If you're good you are unimportant. There is usually slow growth or excessive spending rather than lose a prized employee. And it's just as he or she would be enough to guarantee good effects. Adults care just as much what other people think, but to do more with less?
You have to worry about that danger. Yes, it would be improper to name names, while everyone else and put our worker on a seed investment in you, they were going back to the next time you raise them. All you have to be good startup founders are driven only by money. As I was genuinely worried that Airbnb, for the difference is that they don't want to keep the next round is high, so buildings are traditionally seen as temporary; there is undeniably a grim satisfaction in hunting down certain sorts of bugs.
Credit card debt stupidest of all.
And yet if he hadn't we probably would not be true that being so, even if they do for a startup you can do is not such a baleful stare as they are in love with their decision or just outright dismisses it and make a conscious effort. IBM is the proper test of success for a CEO to make money. And if you have to be employees is to tell them about.
Zagat's there are some whose definition of politics: what determines rank in the last they ever need.
If Apple's board hadn't made that blunder, they will only be willing to provide when it's their own itinerary through no-shop clause. And maybe we should worry, not like soccer; you don't see them, not like soccer; you don't know who invented something the automobile, the best metaphors for hackers are in research departments.

Superintelligence Review: Melissa McCarthy Movie Needed to Upload More Laughs
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Superintelligence is a strange experiment of a film. Maybe that’s by design since the crux of the movie pivots on a sentient artificial intelligence studying Melissa McCarthy for three days, using her “averageness” as a barometer to determine if humanity is worth saving. But the real test of the film appears to be if you can cast an entire troupe of charming actors, with McCarthy as the lead, and not include one laugh. If you pull that off
will audiences still think they’re watching a comedy?
To be sure there are plenty of pleasant actors doing pleasant enough work in Superintelligence, from McCarthy as everywoman Carol Peters to Bobby Cannavale as her dude bro, professorial ex; Jean Smart is the president; and Brian Tyree Henry is Carol’s BFF. And then of course there’s James Corden, who voices the sardonic computer overlord with a gift for gab.
But between them there is nary a chortle, guffaw, or chuckle. Rather Superintelligence washes over you like Corden’s AI machinations wash over McCarthy: with active engagement kept to a minimum.
The basic setup is McCarthy’s Carol is a woman who’s never failed but never really succeeded. Pushing middle age, she’s just gotten by and is now applying for a new tech job in Seattle despite the future having seemingly left her behind. In truth though, the future has picked her as its new guinea pig.
Waking up one day to find that a mysterious voice is speaking out of  all her electronic devices, from the alarm clock to rice maker, Carol discovers she’s been chosen for an experiment. A new superintelligence has the power to end world hunger or kill us all in nuclear holocaust, and it’s selected Carol as a representative for the human race (and selected Corden’s voice because it knows she’s a fan of the late night host). But really this is a not-so-subtle way to become a covert romantic comedy, with an omnipotent AI floating in the ether and wingman-ing Carol’s attempts to win back George (Cannavale). The government is also there to do something.
Superintelligence marks the fourth McCarthy film that her husband Ben Falcone has directed. It’s also the first to appear on streaming via HBO Max. However, to my surprise after watching the film, it was originally intended for theatrical release, with New Line Cinema completing the film in 2019 ahead of a Christmas release that year
which the studio then rightly scrapped in favor of HBO.
It’s easy to see why. Despite starring a generally reliable box office star like McCarthy, who recently earned a very deserved Oscar nomination for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, the picture seemed destined in its bones (or is that code?) to wind up on streaming. Playing like one of the more underdeveloped Netflix comedies that streamers greenlight exclusively to feed hungry algorithms, Superintelligence is a movie meant to be watched with a smartphone in hand, and maybe a rice cooker on in the back too.
With little in the way of actual wit or humor, Superintelligence attempts to coast by on the affability of its cast, all while its search engine finds no results for the word “funny.” In that respect, it has much in common with previous Falcone-McCarthy films, including The Boss and the downright dreary Tammy.
It’s a shame, because unlike those films, Superintelligence has an amusing premise. Your mileage might vary in regards to James Corden, but hearing his voice come out of a toaster oven and tell you the end of the world is nigh would be understandably baffling. And a comedian as gifted as McCarthy should have a field day playing that reaction. But Superintelligence is so determined to maintain Carol as an everyday gal, and one in a by the numbers rom-com no less, that her film passes by like so much digital white noise.
For some Superintelligence will do just fine as that background blur on the TV. But the experience is so passive that those same people likely wouldn’t notice if Corden’s voice suddenly started talking to them.
Superintelligence premieres on Nov. 26 on HBO Max.

India Electric Rice Cooker Market to Witness Robust Growth During Forecast Period
Increasing demand for energy saving devices and surge in consumer disposable income to drive India electric rice cooker market
Tumblr media
According to TechSci Research report, “India Electric Rice Cooker Market By Type (Standard, Multifunction, Induction Heat, Others), By Capacity (1-2L, 3-4L, 5-6L), By Distribution Channel (Supermarket/Hypermarket, Specialty Stores, Online, Others), By End User (Residential, Commercial), By Region, Forecast & Opportunities, FY2026”, India electric rice cooker is anticipated to grow at a robust rate during the forecast period. Electric rice cookers are designed to cook rice for different duration of time without intervention of any cook. They are available in the market with different capacities and at varying prices. The market is gaining traction in India on the back of significant consumption of rice in the country. India stands second in terms of highest rice producing countries and produced 116.42 million metric tons rice in the year 2018-19. Rising consumer awareness about sustainable development and saving energy for future purposes is driving the market as this has shifted customer's focus from conventional rice cooking to electrical rice cooking and thus, increased the sales of electric rice cookers. Increasing population in India as well as rising number of nuclear families are expected to bolster the market growth. In order to cut down the family expenses, Indian population has initiated spending its disposable income on energy efficient devices like electric rice cookers, induction cooktops, etc. Another factor that can be held responsible for the growth of the market is convenience, aesthetics, short duration of time taken for cooking and long duration of time for which a cooker keeps the rice warm. This is highly beneficial for commercial purposes, for instance, hotels and restaurants, where a large number of people are to be served in a small duration of time.

India electric rice cooker market is segmented on the basis of type, capacity, distribution channel, end user, region and company. Based on distribution channel, the market is further segmented into supermarket/hypermarket, specialty stores, online and others. Amongst these, supermarket/hypermarket segment is expected to hold the largest share in the market through FY2026 as compared to other segments as people usually prefer offline stores for buying electrical appliances rather than online ones in order to test the quality and ensure the warranty of products. Furthermore, specialty stores are particularly meant for specific brand of appliances, which makes them easier to find, thereby contributing to the share of the segment. Based on end user, the market is further bifurcated into residential and commercial. In FY2020, residential led the market and the trend is expected to continue until FY2026 owing to the increase in the number of nuclear families. However, commercial segment is anticipated to register the maximum growth as electric rice cookers are becoming quite popular in public eating spots like hotels and restaurants because of their convenience and minimal need of operation.
Bajaj Electricals Limited, Hawkins Cookers Limited, TTK Prestige Limited, Panasonic India Pvt. Ltd., BMS Lifestyle, Toshiba India Pvt. Ltd., Kent Group, Pigeon Appliances Private Limited, Philips India Limited, Geek Robocook, Greenchef Appliances Limited and others are some of the leading players operating in India electric rice cooker market.

Modern Art - Tony Stark x Reader
A/N: I’m not sure whether or not you meant to do this to me, Justine, but you reminded me of that scene in Iron Man 2 with the “modern art”, lol. ^-^ ANYWAY though this just finally flowed out today and it’s short and I’m not entirely sure I’m satisfied with it but hey! it’s out at last!
Request: “ What about a story where like you are dating Tony and he finds your comic book collection and it has pretty much every super hero except him. You try to play it off but when he starts to get really on your never you reveal you had the iron man ones framed in a mosaic of him for his upcoming birthday. Just an idea I thought would be fun. ” Thanks a lot, @travelwithwords. (And no, that wasn’t sarcastic!)
Taglist: @courtneychicken, @travelwithwords, @elxrini
Summary: Keeping secrets is one thing - surprises are another. It turns out the Iron Man isn’t much good with either.
Warnings: Relationship tension, no language (how likely is that? not at all, with me or Tony), and it’s really short. Oh, yeah! There’s sexual references, I almost forgot.
Other Notes: Gender neutral reader, of course. I hope you like it!
'My little geek', he'd called you affectionately since the first time you met – and you'd been reading a comic book.
Now that you were dating him, it'd become no less common.
How ironic was it: the same superhero type that you'd once looked up to now considered himself your equal.
Okay, okay, it was Tony Stark, he considered himself above you still – but only minimally.
Sighing, you continued to sift through the numerous stacks of your collection one last time to ensure you hadn't missed any of the books you'd been looking for, when your phone lit up.
A text from Tony: Coming over. I have food.
Living room now covered with the mess you'd made with the search, you quickly grabbed the books you'd been sorting through the entire collection for, giving up on cleaning the rest of the mess and hurrying to put away the bare minimum before he arrived.
“My little geek,” laughed your boyfriend, shaking his head in bemusement at the collection splayed about, “how come I've never seen this before?”
“You never asked.”
He picked up a Captain America book, turning with a feigned look of deep disappointment and horror. “Really, Y/N. For shame.”
The look, however, seemed to become less of an act and more of an actuality when he continued to organize the books, each cover Tony read serving to make you feel more awkward.”
'Hey, uh, Y/N? How come you have-” he scrutinized the paperback he held “-Aqua Man, but no, er, Iron Man?”
“Why would I need Iron Man when I have the real thing?” you asked, half-teasingly and half-hoping he wouldn't pursue it any further.
It was, in retrospect, almost a foolish idea to have actually believed, even for a minute, that he would accept that explanation without argument.
Since then,t the very comic book store where you had loved going with him (even if Tony had been, quite often, pestered for an autograph by more than one person) had become a rice cooker of pressure: the tension obvious when he'd suggest that he purchase for you an Iron Man comic.
“Surely you need something to read?” he'd asked, holding up one of the books so that the face on the cover almost perfectly eclipsed his own.
Desperate for any excuse other than the fact that you already owned the book, you'd answered easily, “I hear you're out of character in that one.”
While only a couple of days had passed since, you weren't sure that you'd be able to hold out with the secret for the next seven days until Tony's birthday.
Frowning at the mosaic of frames and pages you'd thought was a great idea, the stark contrast of the red and gold against the black frame seemed to serve less as aesthetic and more of a reminder of how much tension had grown between the two of you, muttering frustratedly, “You're more trouble than your worth” before answering the phone the moment it started to ring.
“Hey, Y/N, how's it going? I'm here with Stark, but I'm sure you know him well enough from his comics that apparently don't get Mr Captain America here out of character. Anyway, just wondering, what's your favorite color?”
“You don't know by now?” you asked, not sure whether to be annoyed or bemused.
Actually, scratch that. You were definitely annoyed.
“Right, right, I know that. Sorry, forgot for a minute. I'll see you later.”
Less than two minutes, and yet the call seemed to weigh so heavily on your mind.
No nicknames, no 'how are you doing'?
Was the surprise really worth the distance it put between you?
Finally, you snapped.
Sitting on your coach with your head leaned against Tony's shoulder, you said it out loud.
“I have your comics.”
“Mhm,” he murmured distractedly.
“No, I'm serious. I have them.” Almost all of them, you wanted to add, but you were afraid that would sound too unrealistic and make you out to be even more of a geek than you already were.
You leaped up, ignoring the hand that tried to pull you back down, before quickly moving into your bedroom and grabbing the framed piece, pulling it out and leaning it against the wall just outside of the living room.
“I had the books out because I wanted to do this for your birthday, but apparently you're almost as bad with surprises as you are in bed.”
“I am not bad in bed,” he retorted, crossing his arms and trying not to ask you to turn it around that he could see and prove your point.
“Oh, really? You want to wait until the big day for me to turn that around? Or do you want to finish before I'm ready?”
“Is this another dig at my performance in bed?” he asked, before relenting. “Fine. Yes, I want to see it, but no, that does not mean I'm a bad partner.”
Joking aside, you felt somewhat nervous as you turned around the frame, awaiting his reaction.
“That is modern art.”
He got up, stepping closer to examine it, and adding, “I want to hang that up.”
“No, you can see it, but you don't get it until your birthday.”
“What if I admit that I'm an inconsiderate bed partner?”
“Unlikely.”
He grinned, before pinching your cheek. “You're too cute, Y/N, little geek.”
And when he kissed you, you breathed a sigh of relief into his lips, glad that you were finally back to normal.
“Are you trying to grab the art from behind my back?”
“What? No, that would be entirely backhanded and rude of me.”
“Tony.”
“You're the art?”
“Tony.”
“Say my name again.”
“Oh, shut up, you dork.”
A/N: Je s’aime! I like this fic and love the requester - go follow her if you haven’t already - thanks for reading! My requests are still open, as are my ships, I just have one imagine to go and then I am a free bird!
(Get it, ‘cause I have “penguin” in my username?)

5 Ideas for Eating Well When You Don't Have the Energy to Cook
Tumblr media
Eating well can be a challenge when you live with chronic illness and fatigue. Author and advocate Lene Andersen shares tips on making delicious and nutritious food without draining your energy.
With the energy limitations that chronic conditions often impose, sometimes you have to make tough choices about where your efforts go.
Giving your body the best fuel possible is important, especially when living with chronic illness. The kind of good fuel that’s contained in a healthy balanced diet full of nutritious and tasty foods. Well, that’s the ideal, anyway.
The reality is that with the energy limitations that chronic conditions often impose, sometimes you have to make tough choices about where your efforts go. Occasionally that means shortcuts when it comes to food. Enter meals that are fast, processed, and ready-made, usually not known for being healthy or balanced.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Good nutritious food doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some of the ways you can make it easier to get the good-for-you fuel your body needs.
Create a delicious library. I’m a hopeless geek, so I always start with what the research says. Instead of spending hours watching videos of cats — or is that just me? — try spending some of your online time to find recipes for quick and easy meals. This could include The Pioneer Woman’s 16-minute meals, rice bowls, crockpot dinners, and make-ahead breakfasts. Scour Pinterest, and if you prefer to have recipes come to you, sign up for email notifications from recipe sites that you like.
Think about what you would do with the time you’d get back if you had a rice cooker (not just for rice anymore), crockpot, or food processor.
Get equipment. Machinery and doodads can save you time and energy in the kitchen. Think about what you would do with the time you’d get back if you had a rice cooker (not just for rice anymore), crockpot, or food processor. Other time-and energy-saving tools to consider include a salad chopper bowl, palm peeler, and jar opener.  Make friends with your freezer. When I cook, I always make enough for several days -- whether it’s creating leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch, or cooking double portions of tomato sauce, soups, and stews. Making more can make life easier for you in the future. Stock up on containers, and clear out your freezer so there is room for a bunch of easy meals.
Plan ahead. When you cook, take a bit of extra time up front to make the experience easier for yourself. Review the recipe and get out everything you need ahead of time, perhaps imagining that you are a French chef doing mise en place. Having all the ingredients and equipment right in front of you makes cooking a snap.
Spending time to plan ahead and to invest in different types of equipment can give you the support you need to eat well -- without compromising your energy.
Know your backups. There will be days when the thought of spending even a minute in the kitchen makes you want to weep. Those are the days that call for a ready-made meal -- they aren’t all bad. Just as you did research to find fast, easy, and healthy recipes, check out prepared meals at your grocery store.
Read labels to find out which brands and dishes primarily use the ingredients and flavors you’d cook for yourself. Try to avoid anything with hidden sugars (like glucose or fructose) and a long list of scary-sounding chemical ingredients. Most of all, don’t feel guilty about taking the occasional shortcut, even when it involves a drive-through.
It can be easy to get sucked into feeling guilty in the kitchen. Maybe you get down about not cooking the way you used to, or worrying about whether you and your family are getting proper nutrition.
Remember that you can make food as complicated or as easy as you’d like, both when you prepare meals and when you’re just thinking about it. Spending time to plan ahead and to invest in different types of equipment can give you the support you need to eat well -- without compromising your energy.
